An engagement on the private sector’s role in inclusive development

On the 21st of September, the IJR co-hosted with the Konrad Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) members from the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Mr Jan Hofmeyr, head of the IJR’s research and policy program, presented on  some of the IJR’s latest research findings from the annual Transformation Audit publication. The discussion focussed on the role of the private sector in inclusive economic development. The presentation and subsequent discussions allowed prominent actors from the business community to engage with the state of poverty, unemployment, and inequality in South Africa, and how this impacts negatively both social  cohesion and the sustainability of the business environment in South Africa. The discussion provided business stakeholders food for fought on the urgency of addressing human suffering in South Africa, and how this realisation can be internalised into their own business practices.
