Reconciliation in the Central African Republic: A Handbook for Practitioners is a product of IJR’s ongoing work in the Central African Republic (CAR), and developed in response to the need for contextually relevant educational materials to support local reconciliation and peacebuilding efforts.

It is the result of ongoing engagements the IJR has had with the Ministry of Humanitarian Action and National Reconciliation in CAR since 2016, and draws on the practical knowledge gained by the Institute over almost two decades of peacebuilding and reconciliation work in several African contexts.

This Handbook provides simple and practical lessons in reconciliation programming that have immediate relevance and applicability to local civil society stakeholders in CAR working at the coal-face of conflict. Through a series of five modules, the conceptual dimensions of dialogue for the purpose of reconciliation within the Central African context are explained, and useful materials provided to enhance the ability of local practitioners to design, implement, and evaluate their own reconciliation projects.
